    Temple Beth El Custodial Services 

    Summary – Members of Temple Beth El Custodial Services team are responsible for the safety and facility set up/tear down and maintenance of the facility. We are seeking qualified candidates who are highly motivated, experienced and possess the skills to work on a custodial services team dedicated to maintaining a beautiful and safe facility. The successful candidate will be flexible with a work schedule and be willing to go the extra mile to learn and grow on the job. Hours of work will vary and will include 1st and 2nd shifts with rotating schedules, weekends, and some holidays. This is a 36-40 hour per week position.

    Overview – With nearly 600 member families, Temple Beth El has a vibrant program of religious, spiritual, educational, social, social action and support activities. Temple Beth El is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism, which represents the liberal tradition of Judaism. As a house of worship, a center of teaching and learning and a place of communal fellowship, the Temple’s progressive voice is heard and respected not only in Madison, but also throughout Wisconsin.

    Key Responsibilities 

    1. Open and prepare building for weekend programs including weekly religious services (Friday night), programs and special events (Saturday mornings and occasional evenings) and Sunday School (during the academic year).

    2. Maintain a consistent presence in the foyer of the facility during times when the building is occupied for religious services, programs, and school.

    3. Be an active participant in security protocols to ensure the safety of the building.

    4. Clean and reset building for subsequent events including vacuuming, restroom clean up and restock, kitchen, sanctuary, social hall as needed.

    5. Custodial duties include sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, washing windows and walls, dusting, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, performing special projects and seasonal duties.

    • Ability to lift 50 pounds
    • Communicate effectively
    • Ability to be warm and welcoming toward attendees

    • Reliability & flexibility
    • AV competency helpful

    Special Considerations

    Weekend availability required – Friday pm, Saturday am (approximately 26/year), & Sunday am during the academic year. Hours may vary based on scheduled events. There may be occasional opportunities for additional hours.

    • Preheat oven
    • Remove mac & cheese and adult entrée from freezer and prep for oven
    • Put mac & cheese and adult entrée in oven at appropriate time for 6:00 finish
    • Set tables in Social Hall for dinner (paper tablecloths, crayons, one donation box per table with appropriate insert, sign-in sheet and pen on each table)
    • Furnish buffet in Social Hall with plastic forks and knives, paper napkins, dinner-sized paper plates, and serving utensils
    • Furnish drinks table in Social Hall with plastic cups
    • Place 1 or 2 trash cans near buffet
    • Set up kids activities (printed coloring sheets, crayons) in Community Court
    • Place donation box, guest book, and green booklets in foyer
    • Set up oneg in Community Court: put out Sisterhood’s tablecloth banner, faux flowers; punch bowl with ladles, plastic cups; dessert-sized paper plates and napkins in color specified by Sisterhood; sponsorship sign if requested
    • Prep veggies/fruit (remove covers, wash/cut/put in dish), water/drinks (refrigerate), tartar sauce/ketchup (put in bowls), and challah (slice and put in baskets)

    5:30 – 5:45

    • Determine amount of fish sticks to prepare based on attendance

    5:45 – 6:00

    • Put fish sticks in oven
    • Place on buffet veggies/fruit, tartar sauce/ketchup, and challah
    • Place on drinks table water/drinks

    6:00 – 6:05

    • Take mac & cheese and adult entrée out of oven

    6:05 – 6:10

    • Take fish sticks out of oven
    • Turn off oven

    6:10 – 6:15

    • Put out mac & cheese, adult entrée, and fish sticks

    6:15 – 6:30

    • Replenish or combine buffet items as needed

    6:30 – 7:00

    • Prep grab-and-go dessert
    • Clean up/remove kids activities from Community Court
    • Switch guest book and remove donation box

    7:00 – 7:15

    • Pass out grab-and-go dessert

    7:15 – 8:30

    • Clean up Social Hall and Kitchen after dinner
    • Record data of quantities of food prepared and eaten, number of attendees, to be sent to Executive Director
    • Put out oneg food, frozen punch ring in bowl

    8:30 – 8:45

    • Make punch (1 orange juice, one pineapple juice, one ginger ale)
    • Remove plastic covers from food

    8:45 – 9:15

    • Serve punch
    • Make more punch as needed

    9:15 – 9:45

    • Clear oneg
    • Put leftover punch into mold and freeze to make new punch ring
    • Clean up
